Old Concrete Needs Honest Prep
Epoxy flooring in Jefferson usually means working with older concrete. The city was settled in 1836, became a village in 1857 and a city in 1878. It grew where the Rock and Crawfish rivers meet, at what was once the farthest point a steamboat could travel up the Rock. Neighborhoods close to downtown have homes and basements that have been patched, painted and repainted over the years. Our job is to get that floor back to sound concrete before any coating goes down.
What we usually find in older Jefferson homes
- Basement floors with several layers of gray or red floor paint
- Patches in different colors where old drains or posts were moved
- Uneven slabs and shallow dips that hold water near the floor drain
- Detached garages with thin slabs and cracks along the door edge
None of that rules out a coating. It does mean prep takes longer. We grind away old paint, fill cracks and level low spots so the coating can bond across the whole floor.
Moisture and river towns
Town sites picked for water power often have homes on lower ground. Before any basement job here, we test the slab for moisture. If the reading is high, we tell you and talk about a moisture-tolerant system, or about fixing drainage first. We do not repair foundations, and we will say so if a crack looks structural.
Cold-weather scheduling
Jefferson winters are long, and unheated garages here stay cold well into spring. Epoxy needs the slab to stay warm while it cures, so we schedule most garage jobs between late spring and early fall. Basements usually stay at a steadier temperature, which makes them a good winter project. If you want to get a basement done before the holidays or a garage done in time for summer, call early so we can measure and get you on the calendar.
Matching systems to Jefferson floors
Basement floor epoxy is our most common job in older homes. It brightens a dark room and makes laundry and storage areas easier to keep clean. For garages, garage floor epoxy or epoxy flake floors seal against winter salt. Concrete crack and floor repair is often part of the same visit.
Jefferson also has a working industrial side. Valero Renewables runs an ethanol plant here, Purina makes cat food in the city and Generac Power Systems has a plant. The contractors, suppliers and small businesses around those employers run shops and storage spaces that see heavy traffic. Shop and commercial floor epoxy suits those floors, and polyaspartic floor coating helps when downtime has to be short.

Jefferson Questions
Can you coat over old basement floor paint in Jefferson?
We grind it off first. Epoxy bonded to old paint will only hold as well as the paint does. Removing it and filling the patches underneath gives the new coating clean concrete to grip.
My basement floor is uneven. Will epoxy level it?
A standard coating follows the shape of the slab. We fill cracks and shallow dips during prep. Larger slopes toward a drain are normal and usually stay, since they help water reach the drain.
Do you coat shop floors for Jefferson businesses?
Yes. We coat shops, storage rooms and service areas. Tell us about the traffic, chemicals and how long you can close, and we will suggest a system.
